Everytime someone asks me how I make money from my websites, I tell them like Lego Blocks. It always leaves them puzzled. If they’re insistent and really want to give it a go, I usually end up giving them my website address so they can go have a look and sort of copy what I do. Eventually, they’ll come back to me and say “It looks terribly simple, but it isn’t. I don’t think I can do it. How do you do it?”

And I tell them once again, “Lego Blocks”.

Anyone whose ever played with Lego Blocks know that it takes time to construct those little pieces of plastic into anything. It’s can be a tedious process, depending on how big the finished work is supposed to be.

And so it is with building a website. You CAN build a one-page website that contains a little bit of text and pictures - pretty much like building a Lego Blocks cube - but it takes loads of time and careful study to build a successful website. There are so many aspects to building a website :

  • Planning your website
  • Actual design of the website
  • Building the content
  • Testing the functionality of your site
  • Getting people to link to your site
  • Getting it to rank high on the Search Engine Pages
  • Online and offline marketing

The problem with people who keep asking me how I make money with my websites is that the real question is “How do I make loads of money overnight?” I don’t like to give them a long lecture and tell them all the technicalities involved in making a website popular. So I end up telling them “Lego Blocks”.

You build a website piece by piece, module by module, section by section. It takes time, it takes patience and it takes skill. As you keep building your website, you’ll find the time, develop the patience and learn the skills. Then you begin to appreciate what Lego Blocks and your website have in common.
