This post started out as a long reflection of how I began working for myself, but I've re-written it after reading Jenny How's post on her blog.
Life is a roller coaster. It's a kaleidoscope of exhilaration, fear, anxiety, joy, hope and sorrow. Reading Jenny's introduction of herself and her recent post reminded me of these words from a song. They've been stuck in my head for over 25 years and I've repeated them to anyone and everyone who has ever faced a problem in life. See the words of the song after jump :

When God closes a door, He opens a window, a window, He opens a window so I can see, He's working it out, The very best for me. |
Working from home has meant so much more than just personal freedom. I am able to spend precious time with my kids Sam and Sara. I get to take them to and from school. I get to have lunch with them, talking noisily about their day in school. I get to tuck them in for their afternoon nap or steal a couple of minutes from work to have a rowdy pillow fight. On hot days, I get to jump into the kiddie pool with them and let them bully me.
However, the opportunity to work at home came disguised as a terrible problem. Four years ago, the company I worked for was in grave financial difficulties. Seriously, it was during that fearful and difficult period in life that my hair greyed. Looking back now, that episode was merely God closing the door on a chapter of life and opening a window to a thousand opportunities. I am now infinitely thankful for that painful storm four years ago. That storm was a prelude to the blooming of the home business owner, blogger and webpreneur in me.
Whatever your faith, believe that problems are the painful birth of new opportunities. Keep the faith. Problems are opportunities in disguise. If you know someone who needs a word of encouragement right now, send this eCard to them :
I'd like to encourage you to visit Jenny's blog too and as you do, remember that Problems ARE Opportunities in Disguise.

wow, you put everything in sentence that i wanted to say
I have to agree 100% on this : "Looking back now, that episode was merely God closing the door on a chapter of life and opening a window to a thousand opportunities. "
Cheers to our 4 years anniversary for our new opportunities, Andrew!
And you know what? That one window is opening MORE opportunities than I can handle. So like you said... prioritize! Cheers to you too!
Nice...
If you want more opportunities, look for more problems, hehe...
Yo brudder... not exactly what I had in mind... but when you think about it, opportunities DO bring their own set of problems - they are what I call GOOD problems.
Case in point - as our home catering biz grew, one fridge wasn't enough, then two wasn't enough, then two fridges and one freezer wasn't enough... we're now a 2 fridge + 2 freezer business and soon to outgrow them. Good problems are good to have.
yeah, a problem is to test how goooood we are!
I take it from your "gooooood" that you've been tested many times then?
Very well said. I agree that problems sometime make us come out of the comfort zone. Life is a never ending challenge. You will never know what might happen the next minute of your life. Keep on adventuring!
Very well put too, Daram. I can see you are a positive thinking propenent yourself. Good on ya!
