One of the things I like best about having my own home based business is the fact that I can make MY own decisions. I love being able to do what I want to do, when I want to do it and how I do it. I also love the challenge of the responsibillity that comes with making those decisions. There is a world of difference between taking responsibility for your own actions and having it thrust on you by your boss!

Sometimes though, you’re faced with decisions where there is no right or wrong. When that happens, it all boils down to your gut instincts, principles and whether you can live with your decisions. I had to make one of those decisions this week.

While our business is currently facing a flat-line, we encountered a customer who was temperamental, arrogant and downright abusive. We needed the business, but we didn’t need the stress of having to tolerate his crudeness, so we politely turn him down. I felt a sense of peace when I made that decision so I knew that it was the correct one - this time round.

As I discussed the situation with my wife, I remembered that one of the main reasons I wanted to be my own boss was to be free to make my own decisions and not have one thrust on me. Sure, we could have pocketed this man’s money, but that would have to mean months of bear with his crude behaviour, so like I said - make the decision and live with it - sometimes there is no right or wrong. It’s all about being your own boss.
