My wife and about fifty of her colleagues in the kindergarten where she teaches in the morning were summoned to an emergency meeting recently. The topic of the meeting wasn’t really a secret. :shh: It was clear in the last few months that business had been bad and that her employers needed to shut down one of their two kindergartens. In the meeting, these fifty ladies – half of them were long-serving teachers – were told the bare facts, that only one out of every two of them would be retained. The others would be asked to leave. Those that were “fortunate” enough to be retained, would be absorbed into a newly registered company. What this meant was that they would in effect be considered “new” staff and would have to start at the bottom of the salary scale again. In that quick half-hour meeting, many of these ladies felt their world suddenly crumbling around them. Many of them had dedicated their lives to this one-time successful kindergarten. :ohman: For my wife and me, it was DejaVu

We went through the EXACT same situation years before when the company I worked for had to shut down. The difference at that time was that I was in a state of panic. With no backup plan and no alternative source of income, I was sure we were in for a crash landing. It was then that we set up a small home catering business which saved us.

Today, our two alternative sources of income – the home catering business and my online businesses – allowed my wife to take the news of the impending closure of the kindergarten calmly. She teaches there now simply for the love of teaching and not for the money but we feel for the many other ladies who would lose up to half of their total income in the coming months.

I cannot stress how important it is to have alternative sources of income these days. While you’re busy climbing that corporate ladder of yours, you may not notice that it’s standing on quick-sand, ready to swallow you up whole when you least expect it! Most people spend their whole lives working their fingers to the bone to make their bosses rich. They never consider that they can be their own boss, making a success of themselves using the very skills and talents that they are using to make someone else rich! You alone know the financial standing of your family. If you’re just getting by month after month, then you are in danger. You must consider finding an alternative source of income that you can run freelance or part-time. Do it now for your family’s sake. You alone know the financial standing of your family. Do it now for your family’s sake.
