Forget the success gurus who preach long sermons about the mathematics of success. Forget the get-rich-quick schemers who scam you into forking out huge bucks to learn the secret to success. Forget your business lecturer who bored you with theoretical stories about success.

I found one success guru who teaches us by example. He's an adorable fella and he's got lots of gumption to reach his one and only passion in the world. You know him too, but I'll figure you never thought you could learn the secret to success from him. Well you can....

If Scrat were a real, human he'd be a great home business owner. He faces a multitude of obstacles and challenges that stand in the way of his one true passion in life - nuts.

Like any true hero in life, he stares each challenge in the eye and never backs down with fear. He focuses on what needs to be done, and he does it. Sure he miscalculates and falls flat on his face many a time, but does he give up? Nope... he bounces back with even more oomph.

I remember one snippet where Scrat slides down a looooong hill to take off into the air and grab his prized target - a nut of course - only to land in iced cold water filled with prehistoric piranha. He fights of the piranha with incredible Kung Fu moves to protect his hard earned nut.

That scene translates nicely into what every (home) business owner faces. He meticulously plans and calculates his moves to successfully launch his dream business. Then he finds there are piranhas (of the two legged species) all around him, waiting to tear him and his business to shreds. In the business world, we call these two-legged piranhas competitors and it takes all the smarts and savvy moves we can muster (Kung Fu included if necessary) to beat their attacks.

And that's the way we should ALL be... whether you're planning to work full-time at home, starting your own small business or working your regular full-time job.

Scrat teaches us in this video the secret to success is to focus on what you want, to be determined, to do whatever it takes to reach that dream and to never, ever give up.

This post also teaches us that Andrew is an overgrown baby who still loves to watch cartoons. Long live Scrat!

P.S. For more Scrat videos, visit this link.

2 weeks ago, the rainbow (and storm cloud) of my life, my seven year old Sara, declared that she'd like to watch the movie Transformers at midnight. We had already planned to watch the movie when the first we saw the first advertisement. Catching the midnight show seemed like a fun thing to do, with the next day being a Saturday, we could all sleep in - no school, no catering, no work.

The minutes seemed like hours as we waited in TGV's lobby for the green light to go in. Sara was yawning, being way past her normal bedtime even though we made sure she took a long nap that evening so she wouldn't be tired.

Our screen number flashed on, we got up, went in armed with popcorn, coke and Twisties (can't watch a movie without my Twisties).

Found our seats and got comfortable.

Everyone was noisy with excitement.

The trailers came and went.

The notice to turn off our mobiles came on. It was time.

The intro was thunderous. My nine year old Sam and I were bug-eyed. Sara was too.

Blackout, the Decepticon looked menacing. Sam and I went "Fui-yoh".

5 minutes into the movie, I turned to look at Sara.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Sara slept right through the movie. She woke up 5 minutes before it ended. Mummy, Sam and I walked out of the cinema chatting non-stop about the movie. For my family, the sign of a good movie is when we find so many things to talk about after watching it. And Transformers was THE best movie we had watched in a long time. For 2 days after that, poor Sara listened as we engaged in our Transformer chit-chat.

"Ooooo Frenzy was so cute, but so irritating, cannot die..."

"Bumblebee was so chun man..."

"Megatron looked really gross..."

"I like Optimus Prime... especially when he transforms... cheeeee-chi-ka-cheeeng"

Then one night while driving to the mall, still engaged in mindless Transformer banter and jokes, a small voice came from the back seat, "Pa, can we watch Transformers again? Pleeeeease?"

Aha! The evil diabolical genius in me relished the thought - watching Tranformers again!

"Oh poor thing... you missed the movie and don't understand what we're talking about... but we really shouldn't waste money watching a movie twice you know..."

"Pleeeease Pa?", pleaded Sara in her melt-Papa's-tofu-heart voice.

"I don't know... I'll have to think about it... maybe if we can get tickets. It was soooo difficult to get tickets for this movie"

YEEEEEEESSSSS!

Last night, we watched Transformers the movie again . Now, Sara joins in our non-sensical semi-expert discussions about the greatest movie we've ever seen. The evil, diabolical genius in me laugh "Bwaaaa-ha-ha-ha!". My wife looked at me.

"You didn't plan on Sara sleeping through the first time so you'd have an excuse to watch it again DID YOU?"

"Huh? What? Me?"

Silently the evil, diabolical genius in me went "Bwaaaa-ha-ha-ha!".

We're getting the DVD when it comes out. I dunno... to get the right effect, I might just HAVE to get the Panasonic 103 inch Plasma TV.

"Bwaaaa-ha-ha-ha!".
